SATURDAY, JUNE 20, 11 AM

AT THE RED VIC THEATRE, 1727 Haight Street, free

ASIFA is presenting animation the way everybody used to see it - projected as a big, bright, fine grained image on a movie screen. TV can not reproduce colors and details as well as film, and video projection is often soft in focus. This program is a rare chance to see local work made in 35mm. 35mm gives the best possible picture and sound. So join us at the Red Vic Theatre for this special Saturday matinee. Fresh popped popcorn with real butter is available. (note: we can only show 16mm and video at The Exploratorium so this is a really rare chance to see these films in a 35mm)

Several of the films were made in association with the companies people work for. ILM's "Employee's Projects Program" allows staff members to use the company's resources after work and on weekends. The films being shown that were made after hours at ILM are CPU, The Face, How to Make Hollywood Cheese, Swords to Plowshares and Tweet Tweet Sludge.

Similar programs exist elsewhere. Gabola the Great, Gas Planet and Sleepy Guy were made at PDI with the company's help and encouragement.

Pixar is providing two John Lasseter classics that were made while they were developing their hardware and software. These were demonstrations of their abilities just as Geri's Game was made recently to demonstrate the abilities of new software and to give the staff a chance to work on something unique.

Special thanks to Judy Conner of PDI, Katherine Emery from Pixar and Suzy Starke of ILM for their help in organizing this program. Thanks also to Prescott Wright for the loan of rare classics and to the staff of the Red Vic.
