WHAT IS ASIFA ITALIA

ASIFA-Italia (Italian Association of Animated Film) was founded in 1982 by a group of filmmakers and critics, as the Italian wing of the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA).

The Association's aims are to promote the production and distribution of animated films, and to stimulate a full critical appreciation of the art form in general. It achieves these objectives in a number of ways. It creates links between everyone involved in the field, at both professional and amateur level, it is involved in the exchange and distribution of information and films, it brings people together, it keeps both State and private bodies informed and aware of what is going on, and it presents Italian animated films whenever and wherever possible. ASIFA-Italia is a member of the European Community Cartoon Media Program and it is a member of the National Association of Audio-visual Industries (A.N.I.C.A.).

Publications

"ASIFA-Italia Notizie", the Association's monthly newsletter, contains news from the Italian and international animated cinema.

"Passouno" is the biennial Italian animated film guide which includes the Italian professionals and societies directory.

Promotion outside Italy

ASIFA-Italia makes the necessary arrangements to ensure that Italian animated film-makers are present at the major international Festivals. Other promotional events are organized outside Italy if requested by Festivals, Italian Cultural InsTitutes, film libraries, museums or other State or private bodies.

Promotion and distribution in Italy

The Association organizes retrospectives, seminars, meetings and shows, using either its own archive or other material available within or outside Italy.

European Animation Archive

The Archive consists of film and video libraries (600 prints, 2000 tapes), a reference library (510 volumes, 35 magazines, etc.), a data bank, covering Italian and international productions.
