TV Review: Tiny Planets

Jerry Beck finds that Tiny Planets teaches big concepts to pre-schoolers in a completely charming way.

An alien, yet child-like look at the world. Bing and Bong set out on their next adventure.

The episodes are short and sweet, gently driving home a point, book-ended by a nifty bubblegum pop theme song (by Kim Goody & Alan Coates). The series is supported by a dedicated Website (www.tinyplanets.com). It's a nice little project that should be enjoyed by all your little alien creatures.

Jerry Beck is an animation producer and cartoon historian who is simultaneously developing a show with MTV Animation and writing a book for Harry N. Abrams Publishers. He also has a cool Website at www.cartoonresearch.com.

Tiny Planets is the best program on television at the moment. As undergraduate students, we can't get enough. It has all the juvenile appeal of Sesame Street and the compelling "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" shouting-answers-at-the-screen style. Mixed with a funky sound track that should have made Christmas number one and a psychedlic backdrop of crazy out-of-this-world creatures, we can't get enough. Never before has it ever rained Bongs!

My 2 year old daughters love this cartoon, and I ADORE it! The characters, the song, the story, all of it. I started to sing the song in the car last night, and stopped when I didn't know the next line. I thought my daughter said "row row", so I started to sing "row, row, row your boat", and she said "no mommy, no - bing bong". As short a song as it is, I better learn the lyrics!

Tiny Planets is one of the most surreal adorable shows ever! I'm wondering if there's any merchandising for it yet... it already being computer animation they could make a great video game out of it, and someone should start producing plush toys of these characters as well. I know a lot of people who would wind up getting "Bongs" as Christmas gifts...

Wonderful! For young and old alike this animated creation is more than charming and educational. It's a return to feelings of child-like wonder and fantasy.
