Too many compliments too little space, thnaks!
Do you know how to start up a animation school for kids? More like a studio workshop than a school where they are graded?I want to start my own, but I no clue how to do it. I wouldn't be able to do it right away because I have $0, but I'd like to start planning.
Thanks!
Jenn
Yes, having good connections is a biggy. It all depends on your financial situation. Some people come from families who can support them while they go month after month improving their skills and looking for work. Others will work a minimum wage job to support themselves. I guess it all depends on what you want for your future or what you consider a responsible lifestyle. Over the past few years, there has been a lot of buzz around the animation industry. College's have boosted enrollment, and there are more online training programs then one can count. My issue with the industry is that it's become a big raz. When a studio finally starts hiring for a project, say, 20 animators, everyone spreads the word. However, at this point, there are literally thousands of unemployed and more experienced animators than yourself also looking. Now, sometimes, the studio will hire the inexperienced people because they can pay them considerably less. At this point, it gives one a sense of hope that their determination has paid off, that is, until they realize that because the gig they landed is perhaps the only show in town, the studio has narrowly locked it down by accepting a considerably lower budget than normal. And because animation is not unionized, artists quickly learn that the industry has virtually nothing in common with a mature work environment, and bullying by supervisors and producers is just part of the day-to-day. Oh, and don't forget to work 14 hour days 6 days a week.
When people say "there are a lot of jobs in animation," what exactly do they mean? Relative to what? If you tell me there are 10 animation jobs in a range of fields from web design to 3D feature in a one city every day, I hate to tell you.. but that's not much compared to the number of unemployed.
I guess where I'm going with this is, if you happen to be one of tens of thousands of animation-trained persons, prepare to use it as your hobby rather than a source of income, because that's the reality. If you're affluent and you can afford to go to lots of conventions and have lots of unstressed free time, go for it. You'll fare out best.
This makes everything so completely pnialess.
i agree in all points here, knowing the right people and setting up connections will definitely help you improve your craft or help you to get your creative ideas somewhere or even get help from them in the your next project! this what my professor told me during our class on multimedia designing. its my final year now in design school in Singapore. hope i can make it! cross finger!
