I hear that! I’ve been working several Joe jobs just to get me through school and then to support my family. I’ve done everything from 3d character animation clips for my church’s kid’s summer program to designing a custom exhaust tip for a truck. It’s probably my biggest battle I face, but I refuse to give up. Some day I hope to have something going.

Getting a job in the industry is kind of a lotto. It certainly doesn't hurt to network and develop your reel or portfolio, but if there's one idea that animation schools don't push, it's this: Most studios circulate the same folks... for years in some cases. A few spots open up from time to time, but considering the 1000's of animation students graduating from any one of the hundreds of schools across the nation... I don't think I need to tell you. There aren't THAT many animation studios lol.

My advice is get what experience you can, get a joe job, and freelance on the side. Start your OWN company.
