"The Animation Report is something that no one who has to
work in or deal with the animation industry should be without. An invaluable
source of information I use all the time, it provides an excellent analysis
of what's happening in animation today."
Paul Sabella, Executive ProducerMGM Animation Since
1992
The Animation Report, edited
and published by Harvey Deneroff, has
been the animation industry newsletter studio executives have turned
to for authoritative analysis of what's going on in the field today.
In addition, its service division, Animation
Consultants International (formerly Animation Report Services),
provides consulting, research and educational services tailored to the
needs of individuals and organizations, ranging from representation
for foreign companies in the U.S. and Canada, to market research and
in-house seminars.
What is The Animation Report?
The Animation Report is a newsletter which provides unbiased,
in-depth reporting on what's really going in the most dynamic and fastest
growing part of today's film and television industry. Subscribers include
major studios such as Warner Bros. and Nelvana, along with independent
companies like J.J. Sedelmaier and Fred Seibertıs Frederator Incorporated,
as well as high tech companies like Sony Pictures Imageworks and Blue
Sky|VIFX.
Studio Reports
The heart of each issue is a series of detailed reports on animation
studios in the United States and Canada, ranging from major studios
to regional commercial houses. Coverage has included traditional studios
(DIC, Universal Cartoon Studios, MGM Animation), CGI companies (Sony
Pictures Imageworks, Blue Sky|VIFX), commercial houses (The Ink Tank,
TOPIX/Mad Dog), specialized service studios (Character Builders, Bardel)
interactive houses (Creative Capers), and motion capture facilities
(Taarna).
These reports provide comprehensive information on each company, including
historical background, key personnel, how much of its work is done in-house
or sent out (including work sent overseas), equipment available, styles
and types of animation it does and current works in progress, along
with a list of past productions and awards. In addition, we provide
an objective analysis of the studio's strengths and weaknesses, as well
as noting the unique cost factors particular to its operation.
News & Commentary
The Animation Report features articles on the economics
of animation, including interviews with producers and other insiders,
designed to provide a variety of perspectives on the problems facing
the industry. These have included discussions of the differences between
animation and live-action filmmaking, budgeting, managing new technologies,
animation on the Internet and overseas production. In addition, there
are discussions of current trends and events, including an annual survey
of employment trends in Los Angeles and around the world, and reviews
of current movies.
