The Premiere Screening of the Ewanrigg Film Project
- a Year of the Artist and Ewanrigg Art Project initiative -
showcasing the work of Dave Brunskill and Debby Akam,
together with young film-makers from Maryport.
took place on
Thursday March 1st 2001 at Christ Church, Maryport Harbour
and was a resounding success!
The programme featured
" Circus of Sand "
a digital video installation artwork loop created
by the two artists.
with :
" Fortuna " , " Fat Dog goes Camping " , " Crow Park "
three animations by local young film makers.
There was also a short documentary of the project,
and the evening was complete with limo, wine and buffet.
The event was well attended by over 150 people
including many youngsters from the Ewanrigg Estate
There was a video projection onto a large screen at the front of the church
and a simultaneous giant projection to the rear wall and through the
three elegant gothic windows.
The rear projection, in particular had a striking quality as the moving image
wrapped itself across the architectural forms of the clear lead glass windows.
Viewing from outside the building on the harbour side was also a unique spectacle.
The weather was calm and clear that mild March night, providing excellent conditions
for viewers to enjoy the animated lightshow through the church windows.
A special screening of all the films also took place
on Sunday March 4th at Netherton and Ewanrigg Community Centre.
Again this event was well attended and enjoyed by mainly local families.
