Central Park Media Sets Anime Release for June 8

On June 8, 2004, Central Park Media set to release URUSEI YATSURA MOVIE 2: BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, BLACK JACK: INCUBATION, SPIRIT WARRIOR: A HARVEST OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS, SPIRIT WARRIOR DVD COLLECTION, DOMAIN OF MURDER, MACHINE ROBO: REVENGE OF CRONOS: VOLUME 3 and THE BONDAGE MASTER on DVD. All DVDs will have audio tracks in both English and Japanese with English subtitles.

Movielink Brings Speed Racer to Broadband Viewers

Movielink has acquired the rights to carry all 52 episodes of the classic SPEED RACER animated television series from Speed Racer Enterprises. The episodes offered on Movielink will be packaged together and rented as 1 1/2 to two-hour segments. Current titles available include: "The Great Plan," "Challenge of the Masked Racer," "The Secret Engine," "Race Against the Mammoth Car," "The Most Dangerous Race" and "Race for Revenge." Movielink will promote its anime offerings through promotional campaigns, e-mail advertising and on its Website.

Zinney Joins Click 3x

Zack Kinney, a motion graphics designer and animator, has joined Click 3x. Kinney will undertake broadcast design and commercial projects, as well as work for other media. In his first project for Click 3x, he designed a graphic opener for the recent 2004 ONE SHOW INTERACTIVE awards show. In an earlier freelance assignment for Click 3x, he served as art director on a promo for MTVs PIMP MY RIDE.

Tartakovsky To Write & Helm Live-Action Astroboy

Sony Pictures Entertainment has signed SAMURAI JACK and DEXTER'S LABORATORY creator Genndy Tartakovsky to write and direct a live-action version of the anime classic ASTROBOY, reports VARIETY. The long in-development picture will be produced by Don Murphy of Angryfilms, and Lisa Henson and Kristine Belson of Jim Henson Pictures.

VH1 Unleashes New ILL-ustrated Satirical Season

Animation sketch comedies are making the airwaves lately, and one of the earlier ones, ILL-USTRATED, returns from a second season on VH1 at 11:30 pm (ET/PT, 10:30 pm central) beginning May 17, 2004, as a five-day strip. The half-hour show will then air regularly on Fridays at 10:00 pm, beginning May 28.

KromA Promotes Fisher

As part of its current expansion drive, KromA has promoted Adam Fisher to visual effects artist. He had been an assistant artist with the studio for two years. Fisher recently served as lead artist on three music video projects for director Benny Boom, including WHAT IF? from AMERICAN IDOL winner Rubin Studdard. He was also part of a team of artists who performed compositing work for the Britney Spears' TOXIC video and the Busta Rhymes video LIGHT YOUR ASS ON FIRE, both directed by Joseph Kahn, as well as the Exies video MY GODDESS directed by Diane Martel.

SPE Launches Animax Channel in India

SPE Networks Asia will launch the highly successful anime channel, Animax, in India on July 5, 2004, on the heels of a successful Animax Asia rollout three months ago. Animax South Asia will be the first and only 24-hour-a-day network in India dedicated to popular animation from Japan.

Customized for India and dubbed in Hindi and English, Animax will target Indias youth and young adults with animation programming. The One Alliance will distribute Animax across India, and SET India will represent Animax in advertising sales.

ACM SIGGRAPH announced the Computer Animation Festival's Best Animated Short and Jury Honors winners for SIGGRAPH 2004, to be held Aug. 8-12 in Los Angeles, California. The Computer Animation Festival jury selected BIRTHDAY BOY (by Sejong Park of the Australian Film Television and Radio School) as Best Animated Short and RYAN (by Chris Landreth) for Jury Honors. Chris Bregler, New York University, is the SIGGRAPH 2004 Computer Animation Festival Chair.
