Japan High Court Rules in Favor of VO Actors Over Anime Houses

On June 28, 2005, Japans Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that ordered Japan's largest animation production company to pay royalties to voice actors on video and DVD sales, reports MAINICHI DAILY NEWS.

The dismissal of Tokyo-based Nippon Animation Co.s appeal will force the company and an affiliate to pay nearly 87 million yen to about 360 voice artists, which includes Masako Nozawa (GALAXY EXPRESS 999 and DRAGON BALL) and Ichiro Nagai (TVs SAZAE-SAN).

SIGGRAPH 2005 Posts Electronic Theater Program

ACM SIGGRAPH has posted the program for the Computer Animation Festivals Electronic Theater for SIGGRAPH 2005, the 32nd International Conference on Computer Graphics & Interactive Techniques, being held July 31 to Aug. 4 in Los Angeles, California.

The screenings will be held in Hall K Aug. 1 (7:00-9:00 pm), Aug. 2 (1:30-3:30 pm, 7:00-9:00 pm) and Aug. 3 (1:30-3:30 pm, 7:00-9:00 pm).

Bandai & Manga Ent. To Release Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Volume 7

Manga Ent. and Bandai Ent. have announced the release of the seventh and final volume of GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX in both Standard and Limited Editions versions on July 26, 2005. Both editions contain three half-hour episodes encoded directly from high-definition masters, featuring superb surround sound plus bonus extras.

The SIGGRAPH 2005 Art Gallery: Threading Time will showcase digital artwork that maps or traces threads through time and space. Six world-renowned artists were invited to exhibit their works in the SIGGRAPH 2005 Art Gallery in addition to the featured juried works. A record number of 1,100 pieces were submitted from which 53 artists were chosen. Works include 11 Art animations, six Art Papers, three Art Symposia discussions, six Art Installations (to be shown in the adjoining Emerging Technologies area) and three distributed performances on Access Grid.

FUNimation Finds Basilisk Anime Series

FUNimation Prods. has acquired North American rights for the 24-episode BASILISK anime series produced by Gonzo Digimation, reports ICv2.com. Based on the manga by Futaro Yamada and Masaki Segawa published by Kodansha, the show mixes aspects of the ninja and horror genre with a ROMEO & JULIET romance between the leaders of two mutant ninja clans. Set in the early 17th Century, BASILISK can also be seen as a new take on the martial arts "tournament" genre since ten representatives from two ninja clans fight to the death.
